The Epitaph of Twilight originally appeared on the personal website of Emma Wielant, but was removed shortly after. Soon,
fantasy writers and occultists became interested in the work, but by that time, Emma had died at age 28 in a car crash, and
the original work had gotten lost. Some of her most dedicated followers were able to piece together most of it but because
of this, multiple versions of the Epitaph began to appear and nobody knew what the correct version was. Soon, word got out
the The World was built upon the foundation of Fragment (which was created by the programmer Harald Hoerwick, and that he
based it on Emma's poem).
Harold was deeply in love with Emma but his love went unrequired. Emma already had a lover who was 20 years older than
her. She was born rich and beautiful, her father was the owner of a winery, but she was high maintenance. Her mother had died
at an early age, and her father when she was 18. Because of this, her uncle was named Emma's guardian, but he knew she was
rich. However the only way he could gain access to the money was by adopting Emma as his very own child. Seeing how she saw
what his uncle was upto, she turned her uncle down. So he wouldn't have access to the funds, but that means se couldn't have
access to it either because her money was in a trust and she couldn't touch it until age 20. Realizing she had to support
herself, she entered nursing school. She wanted to succeed so bad she started pushing herself too hard, and on her 20th birthday
started coughing up blood. On her doctor's suggestion, she checked into a health resort in southern France. At the resort,
she had a life altering experience (although we're never told what, exactly) that influenced everything she did after that.
When she checked out of the resort, she changed her career around and went into anthroposophy (the nature of the Soul). This
is where she met Harold. Harold had an in forging a bond between humans and computers, and had used anthroposophy as a starting
point. Emma was trying to find the meaning of existence and had looked into anthroposophy because of it. Soon after they began
working together on expirements and began exchanging ideas. Harold was falling in love with Emma, however Emma was only saw
him as a friend who she exchanged ideas with. While Harold and Emma were working together, she started writing the Epitaph
of Twilight, and Harald began writing Fragment. Sadly when Emma had died in the car accident, she had arranged to meet Harald
that very same day. Harold went to the location where he was supposed to meet with her and waited for her to arrive. There
was no way of knowing that she died, so he just waited for her under a large ginko tree at the top of a hill.
